METAPHORS AS
BRIDGES BETWEEN RATIONAL AND AESTHETIC
In this essay Petr Drulák merges the sharp
boundary between the rational inquiry of the world and its aesthetic
experience. The author makes a survey of the history of the question proving
that since Plato these two approaches have been
looked upon as radically opposing. However, his analysis states that both
scholarly discourse and aesthetic experience cannot do without metaphors. More
than that, his research on European integration and on war suggests that the
very same metaphors may underlie both kinds of thinking. Thus the dialogue
between rational and aesthetic is not only possible but also enriching to both
kinds of experience.
