A HARD HABITUS TO BREAK?

EXONORMATIVE METAPHORS IN SINGAPORE’S POLITICAL DISCOURSE

 

This paper is focused on a number of metaphorical expressions that are suggestive of a Singaporean habitus. It reveals the differences depending on whether these expressions are used «politically» or «non-politically». The tendency to look outside of Singapore towards prominent Western institutions and individuals for legitimacy proves to be a deeply  exonormative habitus.
